Italy 1921

Fortuny fabrics are still made by hand even today. Each step of the production is important and determines the final soul of the fabric. This process, unduplicated anywhere in the world, results in a fabric where each piece is a beautiful work of art in its own right. Fortuny therefore is always exquisite but never the same.

All Fortuny printed fabrics consist of the finest quality of Egyptian cotton, long staple. The print consists in a special mixture of natural pigments and, in the case of the silvery gold print, of metallic pigments, always following the detailed instructions left by Mariano Fortuny.

Italy 1921

More than a century old, Fortuny remains the highly esteemed Venetian textile company founded by noted artist, inventor and fashion-turned textile designer, Mariano Fortuny.

Fortuny built the factory on Giudecca in 1921 to precise specifications in order to house the machines he invented for the production of his textiles. Every Fortuny fabric is still produced in the same factory, on the same machines, using the same secret process and techniques handed down from generation to generation.
